Since opening its doors a few years ago by a bunch of foresighted friends who realised the gap in the local music scene, The Bird has since been embraced as an important venue for music in Perth. A grungy space at the south end of William Street in Northbridge, The Bird is home to the underground music and arts scene in this part of town, giving alternative acts a space for their tunes in an intimate setting. Open every night of the week, with ticketed events most nights, including the monthly spoken word nights Barefaced Stories, live bands and DJs, album and single launches, and the occasional market or local business’ birthday bash. The interior is a mix of concrete, wood and exposed brick, and paired with dim lighting, booths and a comfy couch, it’s the ultimate place for a mid week drink with friends before catching a local act on the back stage. Head to the rear courtyard for a breath of fresh air both day and night, with greenery providing a shady spot for the days you’d prefer to enjoy your cider in the sun.
