1. Disrupted Festival of Ideas
Disrupted is a weekend long festival presented by the State Library of Western Australia. Now in its third year, the 2016 festival will focus on the presentation and discussion of ideas under the theme ‘Subject to Change’, reflecting a national conversation on innovation and the rapid growth of technology in our society. It is happening this weekend, 30-31 July.
Wednesday morning: the coffee machine whirrs, slow jazz plays softly in the background, three ladies at a corner table laugh as they discuss their latest book club assignment, a little boy reads to his mother from a picture book. You’d never guess that I’m in a library. The Grove Library in Peppermint Grove hosts Monogram Caffe, where you can linger over a magazine and coffee in a bright space with large windows that look onto swaying peppermint trees and blue sky. Outside, there is water feature that displays these words: “Discover in this place that which is important”.
