Sparrow might be one of the cheapest restaurants in Perth, but it is also home to some of the best Indonesian fare in our city. The place is tiny, primarily a takeaway joint with a few plastic tables and chairs thrown about for those that wish to eat in. It’s almost always busy, full of locals who don’t want the word getting out about their favourite haunt. But with the increasing amount of press they’ve received over the years, Sparrow won’t always be Mt Lawley’s best kept secret.
The most popular dish is probably their beef rendang, but I’m quite partial to a good gado gado every now and then. Be aware that when they say a dish is hot, they really do mean hot, which pleases me no end. A quick piece of advice: enter with a good sense of humour as there may or may not be antics that ensue. I’ll say no more. Claire.
