We often think of spending an afternoon sampling a few local beers as a summer activity, but sitting at the Northbridge Brewing Company and watching the world go by is just as fun in the cooler months. With seasonal brews on offer as well as hot food, it’s a great time to get down to the multi-level brewhouse and catch up with friends.
Northbridge Brewing Company venue manager Simon Duncan shared what his favourite wintertime beer is, and more…
What do you love about your job at Northbridge Brewing Company?
Selling and talking about great beer with great people is a highlight of my job. I really like the lay out of the venue, and all of the different spaces it has to offer.
What is the ethos behind the NBC venue?
NBC’s ethos focuses on really well made, fresh beer that is approachable for everyone. Sourcing quality fresh produce for our menu, backed up with genuine, attentive and friendly service.
What is the best beer on your list to enjoy in winter? And what about a dish to enjoy with it?
The best beer at the moment is our new Beerland IPA. It’s perfect for this time of the year and if I could, I would have it with the St Louis pork ribs that are on special every Monday.
Tell us about your seasonal brews and how can we keep an eye on what is being produced?
We regularly produce seasonal and limited edition brews throughout the year, and Ken and Andrew are constantly mixing prototypes in small batches that we showcase at our “Beer o’clock”, where you can get every detail about the beer direct from the brewer himself. Our big batches are released at the Beer Club events – this is where we eat and drink our way through a few different beers and is definitely worth every penny.
When not at NBC, where are your favourite Northbridge haunts?
I think Northbridge has a wide range of quality venue’s on offer and when I am out, I try to fit them all in. No Mafia tapas and wine, fresh shucked oysters at Lot 20 a couple of cocktails at Mechanics and Sneaky Tony’s. I don’t go out without listening to live music though, so I’m always at Universal Bar or next door at Mustang Bar.
