Fremantle is the spiritual home of Perth coffee thanks to its strong migrant and shipping history. Of course there is the tried and true Cappuccino Strip, but sometimes you get the feeling that Freo cafés are resting on reputation without the innovation that is driving others elsewhere in Perth. Moore & Moore is the true exception.
Decked out with kooky chandeliers, vintage water fridges and cosy hiding spots, Moore & Moore is a genuinely cool space without feeling forced. The exposed limestone walls of the heritage listed building create a laneway effect that opens out into a large courtyard with communal tables. If the weather is unkind, enjoy your breakie in the foyer of the adjacent arts space/gallery. Musicians regularly feature to help complete the quintessential Freo atmosphere.
The quality of the food and coffee more than matches the surrounds. The all day breakfast features the usual suspects mixed with more ambitious delights that are consistently great. The counter options of muffins, gourmet sandwiches and salads offer good value and the coffee is also well above par. This place is truly one of Perth’s best cafés. Dave.
