It is really hard to fully describe what a wonderful place Kakulas Sister is. It is a long term resident in the station end of the Cappuccino Strip and you’ll no doubt be drawn in by the wicker baskets loaded with continental bargains, that line the footpath. Once inside anyone with the slightest inclination to food will smile. It takes a little while to negotiate this tightly packed gem so don’t be afraid to let your nose guide you until your bearings are set. As you go past the multiple coffee blends with grinder on site, to the well stocked and affordable deli counter, make note of the bulk nuts and dried fruit. This is the place for your pesto’s pine nuts and the prunes for grandma’s Christmas pud. Designer tea towels hang overhead with wild Greek oregano, while bulk dried foods, including a dozen types of flour, are rustically stored in their sacks on the ground. Spices are plentiful and include all the hard to source ones at much lower prices than their competitors, and the large dedicated gluten free and organic sections are true strengths. The staff are knowledgeable and approachable but very busy. Kakulas Sister has its roots firmly planted as a continental deli but has grown to be so much more, with the brother store located in Northbridge. Please explore this store and enjoy. Dave.
