Henry Hiccups is an old-fashioned toy store that opened up in Subiaco back in 2010 but in 2013 it relocated to the thriving Oxford Street strip in Leederville. When local couple Elsa and Trent decided to open up a traditional toy store, they also came up with the character Henry Hiccups, a giraffe who hiccups so much he couldn’t become an astronaut as NASA said the hiccups that would use up all of the oxygen, or so the story goes (a pretty sweet tale if you ask me!) Instead Henry opened up a toy store where he now delights children of all ages.
Visiting Henry Hiccups is a real treat! They don’t stock any licensed products – no Disney, DC or the like. Instead the focus is on the kind of toys you or I would have grown up with, but with a modern spin. Elsa and Trent spend a lot of time researching their products before deciding to stock them, and look at factors such as durability, longevity, and the educational benefit of the toy. You’ll find soft toys, books, spinning tops, kites, portable wooden train and car sets, toy planes, and much, much more. It’s worth a visit not only for a squiz, but for the helping hand that someone who works in a toy store day in and day out can provide – be sure to ask for a recommendation as the products they point out will both surprise and delight you.
