Preppers is the inaugural exhibition opening at the new artist-run gallery Polizia. Created by the team behind Success and Moana Project Space, Polizia is a gallery inhabiting a former police station in the Fremantle CBD. An intimate new space, it presents an artist-driven programme of experimental contemporary art.
Preppers are a subculture of people that prepare for the collapse of society. They collect specialised survival products, skills, and knowledge. Prepping is both a hobby and a world view. It has its own aesthetics, vocabulary, and consumer objects, and also its own values and fantasies, centered around the moment of collapse and its aftermath.
Artists Loren Kronemyer, Dan McCabe, and Guy Louden have come together to create Preppers based on a mutual fascination and investment in the prepping lifestyle. In this exhibition, they examine this culture through new sculptural, digital, and video art.
Exhibition opens 6pm Saturday 8 April (RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org) and then runs until 16 April. Gallery opens 12-4pm Tuesday to Sunday.
Polizia Gallery is found at 45 Henderson Street, Fremantle.
