Eighteen months in the making, Fire at Sea is a documentary that observes residents on the Italian island of Lampedusa. Part of Italy, but only 100km from Tunisia, Lampedusa is a Mediterranean hotspot for migration from Africa in an otherwise sleepy part of old Europe. Fire at Sea follows ordinary Lampedusan men, women and children living their lives, and in their company we’re given a deeply humane vision of the refugee crisis that we rarely get to see.
Showing at Somerville Auditorium, UWA, from 27 March to 2 April. Film commences at 7:30pm but we suggest you head down early for a picnic under the pines.
