To mark the 15 year milestone of the Tom Malone Prize, AGWA is celebrating with a day of free talks by past exhibitors, Prize winners, as well as a special talk delivered by the Gallery’s Director.

Now in its fifteenth year, the Tom Malone Prize is a highly respected and eagerly anticipated event for contemporary Australian glass artists. An acquisitive prize, each year’s winning entry becomes a part of the State Art Collection..

A Luminous Celebration runs from 12-4pm on Saturday 1 April with free entry.

Artist in Focus – Tom Moore
12-12:45pm
Tom Moore (winner of the Prize in 2013) has been working with hot glass for 25 years in a spirit of humour and wonder. This unusually entertaining artist talk will reveal a life dedicated to the continuation of an ancient craft and the pursuit of ideas with contemporary relevance.

Focus on glass from the Islamic lands with Stefano Carboni
1-2pm
Join AGWA Director, Stefano Carboni, for an insightful lecture on one of his specialist topics: the development of artistic traditions in glassmaking throughout the Islamic world.

Artist Talks
2:30-4pm
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Tom Malone Prize, hear from leading glass artists, Clare Belfrage (winner of the Prize in 2011), Nick Mount and Jessica Loughlin, who have exhibited in the Prize. Introduced by the founder of the Prize, Elizabeth Malone, these three artists will give insight into their unique practice of glass art.
