Entwined in the Valley has fast become one of the most anticipated events on Perth’s gastronomic calendar. Aimed at showcasing the extensive offerings in the Swan Valley, Entwined has a real food and drink focus, but this year a great range of community events have been added to the calendar to encourage everyone to get out and about and explore the region that sits on our doorstep.

Feast by Fervor

Fervor are one of our favourite local businesses – we just love their focus on native Australian produce and their culinary creations are nothing short of exceptional. Fervor are coming to Lilac Hill Park to host one of their famous dinners, and in true Entwined style you’ll learn about what you’re eating with engaging and fascinating conversation. Tickets will set you back $195 per person and we know it will be worth every penny. (Friday 13 October 6pm & Saturday 14 October 5pm, Lilac Hill Park, $195 pp.)

Taylor Private Estate Secret Supper

This event sounds like SO much fun. Pick up a picnic basket and forage for your choice of banquet fare around the Swan Valley, then enjoy an intimate dining experience in a secret location, surrounded by performers and live art. (Saturday 14 October 6-11pm, $50 pp.)

Taste Bud Tours

In these all inclusive tours, you will be picked up from either Perth CBD or Guildford and taken on a journey through the Swan Valley where you’ll meet passionate folk who are dedicated to their respective crafts and who will share their stories. Choose from: a coffee roaster, a beekeeper, an organic winemaker and a chocolatier with lunch at Maalinup Aboriginal Gallery (Friday 13 October 10am-4pm); a coffee roaster, a beekeeper, a fresh fruit cider master, a winemaker, a macaron magician and a nougat creator in a speed grazing tour with lunch at Funk Cider (Saturday 14 October 10am-4pm); or a coffee roaster, a third generation winemaker, a local artisan, a humane food creator, a mead maker and a brewer with high tea at Lavender Bistro & Boutique (Sunday 15 October 12-5pm).

Dinner Under the Stars

Local superstar chef Herb Faust sits at the helm of Houghton Winery Café and he does a damn fine job of it. His seasonal menus focus on fresh, local produce. You can enjoy his creations at dinner in the garden whilst sipping Houghton wines as well. (Friday 13 October 6:30pm, Houghton Winery, $110.)

Guildford Jazz Music Festival

The Stirling Square hub in Guildford will come alive with jazz from street performers and small venue sessions on Saturday 14 October. All sessions are free but seats are limited, so bookings are recommended. (Saturday 14 October 12-8pm, free.)

Masterclasses

Want to learn how to make the perfect macaron? Or to be a winemaker for a day? Entwined are offering a range of masterclasses so you can go home with a new skill.

The Cheese Maker wants to teach you to to make cheese at home (12 October 10am-12pm, Lamonts Winery, $50) and also show you how to make haloumi which guests can then enjoy with a glass of wine (14 October 1-4:30pm, Lamont’s Winery, $197). Explore the pairing of wine and chocolate (14 & 15 October 11:30am, Providore Swan Valley, $30), blend your own wine to pair with lunch (14 October 12pm, Sandalford Wines, $145), or embark on a sensory learning journey through the world of coffee (13, 14 & 15 October 10am-12pm, Yahava Koffeeworks, $95).

If cooking is your bag, master the magnificent macaron (13 October 6:30-9:30pm, Maison Saint-Honore), learn about cooking with asparagus whilst you sip on some sparkling (12 & 13 October 10:30am-1:30pm, Edgecombe Brothers Winery) or learn about old traditions and how to cook traditional French fare from an accomplished, French born chef (12 October 4-6:30pm, Fillaudeau’s Restaurant). All masterclasses can be found here.

Art Amongst the Vines

Entopia Wines will become an art hub during Entwined, with events for kids and adults alike. Take a class or just call in with your own brushes or camera and immerse yourself in the inspiring surroundings. There will be free wine tasting on hand if you wish to take a break from your creative pursuits!

And there’s more…

With many more events taking place across the Valley between 12 – 15 October, there really is something for everyone to enjoy. We recommend booking in for an event or two but giving yourself enough time to explore the region, stopping in to try wines (with many cellar door locations hosting special tastings over the weekend), to stock up on some local honey, to chill out whilst listening to some great tunes and see what’s new.
