It’s no wonder El Publico hits its straps as a fresh, inspired and inviting restaurant and bar. Created by one co-owner of Greenhouse and the folk behind Cantina, these chaps know what you want, and they want to give it to you. To fill your belly is an ever changing dinner menu with a selection of modern, Mexican dishes, designed to be shared.
All the food is available to be ordered at the bar, and while this area is small, if you can nab a stool you’ll be happy to settle in and share some snacks with a pal. The cocktail list might not be long, but it sure is diverse and appealing. Or if the cocktails don’t float your boat, then why not try a tasting flight of three tequilas from different producers. The spirit wall is stocked with an impressive, 50 odd tequilas and mescals, all presided over by a neon donkey.
Don’t be too alarmed if you need to wait for a table as it’s not the kind of place where people tend to laze about all night. The speedy service and somewhat uncomfortable chairs make for a quick turnaround. It’s not somewhere to sit back for a leisurely meal… but if you go too heavy with Sam’s special hot sauce, it sure will be an unforgettable one. You have been warned! Bonus points for the neat website.
Finally, a little tip: if you get lost on the way back from the bathroom, just follow the string of coloured lights. They will lead you to the right door, and not into oblivion! Dave and Claire.
