Moseying down Beaufort Street, it would be easy to miss this little gem. Look out for the pink, neon ‘Bar’ sign in the window and head through the door where you’ll find what you’ve been looking for. Best known as a bar, Clarence’s has an intimate al fresco area out the back as well as some small, indoor tables. Sit back with your beverage of choice and order some nibbly bits to share. The menu is seasonal, but if you have the chance to sample their pâté or pork belly, you will not be disappointed when the outstanding flavours melt through your mouth. At the front you’ll find a restaurant setting, where more substantial dishes are on offer. The menu is not vast, but it is innovative and consistently delicious. On Mondays, $20 will bag you a parmigiana and a pint, and check out their website for other daily specials. Clarences serve carefully selected wines and beers, and the spirits you’d expect from such an establishment. Where they really stand out, though, is their ample range of ciders. Opt for sharing a 750ml bottle of cold, apple goodness on a hot, Perth afternoon. Delightful! Claire
